Through our values, we deliver services to our community that reflect our integrity, respect, compassion and joy for all people and animals. During 2018, 738 cats and dogs found loving homes through NAHS’s adoption program. NAHS accepts animals from owners who can no longer care for their pets and from organizations, both local and far, that lack the space or resources necessary to offer the animals a second chance. In 2018, 570 animals were transported to NAHS from high kill facilities. Each animal in our care receives veterinary care, high-quality food, a comfortable kennel, daily enrichment, and endless love and care from a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. NAHS is blessed to have the support of a community who embraces adoption. In 2018, over 7,000 individuals visited our shelter looking to adopt an animal.
In addition to caring for homeless pets, we offer a free behavior helpline that provides caring pet advice and resources. We also have our Safe Pets program that assists families in crisis, such as domestic violence or homelessness, by offering space in our shelter to care for the family cats or dogs on a temporary basis. To-date, our Safe Pets program has helped keep over 250 animals in their homes. NAHS has a strong commitment to humane education for people of all ages. Humane education that is the innovative, solutions-driven effort to create a better world for people, animals, and the environment. NAHS offers a variety of programs covering various animal welfare topics for children and teens. NAHS has also established two funds dedicated to powerful causes, the Lucky 7 Fund for senior pets, and our Pets for Vets Fund for veterans and/or first responders.
This expansion project will not only enable NAHS to increase the amount of cats and dogs we are able to take in, but also allow us to grow our existing programs and introduce new ones. With your assistance, we can make our revamped shelter a place that meets the needs of the animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Your support, at any level, makes a difference in the lives of the animals in our care. THANK YOU!
