After 40 years, the dream of larger facility is finally a reality! We need your support to help create this amazing place to celebrate pets and the people who love them. A place where people and animals can connect. A place where friendships are made and smiles are abundant. A place where empathy is taught and experienced.

A place where animals get a chance at a new life.

This new facility will allow for happier, healthier animals housed at Naperville Area Humane Society, more children learning about and practicing compassion, more second chances, and many more adoptable pets’ lives saved. The expansion allows for us to lead our community forward and continue to save hundreds of healthy, adoptable pets from being euthanized in overcrowded shelters every year.

1. Expanded Lobby & Reception Area

This space will help accommodate our more than 7,000 individuals who visit NAHS each year. It will also serve as an additional multi-purpose room outside of adoption hours. There will also be an extra bonding room in the lobby area that will serve as a meet and greet area for potential adopters and/or a real life room for any animal who needs a break.

3. Administration Offices and Volunteer Break Room

Administrative staff will now have the much needed office space and volunteers will have a space to store their belongings. The break room will serve as a open area for both staff and volunteers to relax and grab a snack. There will also be lockers available for volunteers to store personal belongings while they spend time at the shelter.

5. Cat Adoption Area & Get Acquainted Rooms

The additional cat space will allow us to nearly double our cat population. There will be 2 free roam rooms, a kitten room, a cat condo room, and a nursery that will enable us to rescue more pregnant cats. There will also be 5 get-acquainted rooms where potential adopters can spend quality time with the cat(s) prior to adoption. These rooms will also serve as real-life rooms for any cat who may need a break from shelter life.

2. Multi-Purpose Room - Humane Education/Training/Meeting

From providing dog obedience/training classes for the public, playgroups for the animals, volunteer dog handling training, humane education classes & camps, and so much more – this space will provide infinite possibilities for improving the lives of the animals while they are here and will help to keep more pets in happy homes.

4. Intake, Isolation, and Medical

With increased capacity for transferring in animals from other facilities, diligent care for animals being transferred in is vital. The intake area will limit the spread of possible diseases and decrease stress in animals. The isolation areas will ensure that disease will not spread among residents through specially designed mechanical and building systems.

6. Dog Adoption Area & Get Acquainted Rooms

The expanded kennel area will allow us to increase the number of kennels to 26 as well as open up 2 new rows that will lead to the outdoor space and make dog walking easier for both the volunteers and the dogs. There will also be 5 get-acquainted rooms where potential adopters can spend quality time with the dog(s) prior to adoption. These rooms will also serve as real life rooms for any cat who may need a break from shelter life.
