Friends for Life Day Camp (ages 6-8)
Friends for Life has special guests visit from NAHS and other local animal organizations to make each day a new adventure! $155 per camper
June 11-June 15, 2018: (9am-12pm)

Animal Neighbors Day Camp (ages 9-11)
Animal Neighbors allows campers to meet and learn about all kinds of animals with the help of our many special guests! $155 per camper

Jumping for Joy (ages 11-13)
Jumping for Joy gives campers the chance to work with our dogs on the agility courses and learn training techniques from guest speakers. $155 per camper

Dog’s Day Out Day Camp (ages 12-14)
Dog’s Day Out gives campers a chance to, not only learn about NAHS, but also take field trips to visit other animal related organizations and observe first-hand how the community cares for and rescues all kinds of creatures big and small. Field trips include: Become a beekeeper for a day at Lyman Woods, learn about the ecosystem and watch the buffalo roam at Fermilab, pet the therapeutic riding horses and help feed the farm animals at the Hansen Center, enjoy wildlife at Willowbrook, and of course spend time working with the shelter animals! $255 per camper
June 25-June 29, 2018: (9am-2pm) 

K9 Manners Day Camp (ages 12-14)
K9 Manners gives campers the chance to work one-on-one with a humane society dog. Campers will learn positive reinforcement training techniques from trainers and then get a chance each day to work with our shelter dogs. $155 per camper
July 9-July 13, 2018: (9am-12pm) - FULL
August 6-August 10, 2018: (9am-12pm) - FULL

K9 Manners

The K9 Manners program allows kids to work with the shelter dogs in each class, and learn positive reinforcement training techniques. The training the dogs receive will be in line with the requirements of the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. At the conclusion of each session, the children will have a strong sense of accomplishment knowing that they helped their dog-partner get one step closer toward achieving his or her CGC certificate.

Information:

  • Ages 11-14
  • Two 5-week sessions available:
    • 2018 Fall Session : Aug. 23, 30 / Sept. 6, 13, 20
  • 4:00pm-4:45pm (meet on Thursdays)
  • $50 per student - Please note, there is a 4% transaction fee for online registrations and a $10 cancellation fee.

Animals & Kids After School Program

Available to children ages 8-11 years old, the Animals & Kids After School Program offers five unique sessions (each session has six classes) where children will have a hands-on opportunity to work with the shelter animals.

Information:

  • Ages 8-11
  • 4:00pm-4:45pm for six-weeks (meet on Mondays)

HOMESCHOOL HEROES

Available to children ages 8-13 years old, Homeschool Heroes allows home-educated children to, not only learn about and enhance the lives of shelter animals, but have hands-on opportunities working with the shelter animals.

INFORMATION:

  • Classes meet on Thursdays at NAHS from 1:00-2:00pm for six-weeks

One-Day Camps

Through crafts, games, and activities children ages 8-11 will explore how we care for our animals at NAHS and how to be safe around all animals. Each camp will have specific lessons tailored to the holiday on which it is held and will educate and entertain each camper!

Spring Break Junior Internship

We know that preteens and teens want to make a difference in the lives of animals, and this program will show them how. We are looking for dedicated teens ages 12-15 to spend their spring break with us. NAHS will take ten teens on a week-long journey of hands-on animal care while gaining knowledge about animal welfare issues. This internship will open their eyes and focus on issues that affect animals and the environment in our world today.

When: Monday, March 26-Friday, March 30, 2018 (9am-12pm)
Registration fee: $155 - please note, there is a 4% transaction fee for online registrations and a $25 cancellation fee.

School Educational Presentations

The Naperville Area Humane Society offers many educational opportunities for schools throughout the year. All programs can be modified to meet the needs of your classroom, or we can create one to fit your specifications. The presentations are offered free of charge.

Scout Patch Program

The Naperville Area Humane Society’s Pet Care & Safety Patch Program consists of three levels: Daisy, Brownie/Cub Scout, and Junior Girl Scout/Boy Scout. At each level, the scouts do a variety of age-appropriate activities to teach her or him about being responsible pet people. All activities are done during troop meetings or at home.

Information:

  • Tours require a $25 donation and are offered weekdays during our non-public hours.
  • Optional patches are offered for $2 per patch.

Birthday Parties

The Naperville Area Humane Society offers fun-filled two-hour parties for children that start with an educational talk and a behind-the-scenes shelter tour. A Party Coordinator will help you with game and craft suggestions. The children will be able to take photos and interact with our shelter animals depending on availability of appropriate animals and comfort level/behavior of party guests. And, of course, there is time for presents and cake!

Information:

  • Minimum donation of $150 (weekdays) or $175 (weekends) is required and includes: services of a Party Coordinator, educational talk and shelter tour, materials for a craft, and a special gift for the birthday child. We require a 50% deposit when the party is booked.
  • Food and drinks are not supplied by the Naperville Area Humane Society, but you are welcome to bring pizza, cake, goodies, drinks, decorations, etc. at your own expense.
  • Parties are scheduled during times that our shelter is not open to the public and depend on Party Coordinator availability. Weekend parties are held from 9:30am-11:30am Saturday or Sunday, and weekday parties are scheduled when we are not open to the public.
  • Space is limited to 10 children and no more than 15 people total.

Tours

We offer educational tours of our animal shelter to groups totaling 15 or less, which includes a discussion about the Naperville Area Humane Society and a full behind-the-scenes tour of our facility. Tours can also be tailored to cover a particular aspect or topic, if desired.

Information:

  • Offered year-round by appointment only
  • $25 donation required for each tour
  • Some groups elect to do a service project and collect supplies for NAHS. Please visit our Wish List to learn more about what items are needed.
